Tess, a divorced single mother, lives with her two daughters in a slightly run-down suburban San Francisco house. The shining-faced Tess is on the verge of remarriage to John, a laconic attractive, sexually charged, man with brutish working-class roots. His cultural background is the opposite of her ineffectual ex-husband, Edward, who still loves her. Tess is trying to stay upbeat. But is bruised by the memory of her daughter who had died years earlier… the raw source of her divorce.  When Eva visits, Tess’ ex sister-in-law, she promises to help Tess with household chores while she prepares for the upcoming marriage. Instead, Eva’s anxiety and jealousy of Tess’ beauty become sinister. In an attempt to satisfy her own morbid passion, Eva is willing to sacrifice Tess, who finds herself wondering at her life’s worth and how rediscover a bloom of motherhood.
