A Romeo and Juliet/Madame Butterfly story based in Shanghai.

Paul, a 17 year-old American Caucasian student, is spending the summer In Shanghai with his parents who are desperately looking to manufacture artificial flowers. Paul is petulantly resisting his stay in Shanghai. He’s in love with a girl in LA and fears his absence will drive this girl into the arms of another teen.

As he drifts and gets lost one night near the Bund, he finds a group Chinese-American students rehearsing a movie in an empty restaurant. The student director is trying to film in Shanghai. Eventually Paul meets the director’s younger sister, Rose. He abruptly falls in love with Rose as abruptly as he forgets his girlfriend in LA.

Paul bewilders his parents who were so concerned about their son’s mental health, when Paul now demands to stay in Shanghai. A violent confrontation with his father propels Paul to run off with Rose.

Paul’s parents and Rose’s Aunt call the police when Paul and Rose don’t return home. As the police search for the lost couple, Paul is badly injured in a knife-fight with Rose’s ex-boyfriend.

The fleeing couple takes a train to Hangzhou, as Paul weakens from his injury. The couple stops at night on the banks of West Lake in Hangzhou. While lying on the banks, the police finally find the couple. But by that time, Paul has died from his injury in Rose’s arms.
